Class 68 performance testing underway
The first of the new DRS Class 68 locomotives, 68001, is now undergoing certification and testing at the dedicated test track at Velim in the Czech Republic. A comprehensive testing programme will run for the next 3 months at which point the locomotive will return to Valencia for final works ahead of delivery to the UK in Q2 of 2014.
Locomotive 68001 (seen here at the Vossloh manufacturing facility) is the first of 15 locomotives which are set to provide DRS and it’s clients with the benefit of a powerful and highly efficient mixed traffic locomotive.
Neil McNicholas, Managing Director of Direct Rail Services said, “This is another important milestone in the strategic development of Direct Rail Services. The Class 68 locomotives are set to further extend DRS’s capabilities and give our clients an even faster and more efficient service. The Class 68 is just the first component of a wider DRS fleet strategy designed to ensure that we can offer our clients the most efficient and flexible service well into the future.”
